Help Israeli Star Shai Sol Record Her Debut Album

141224_shai

If you haven’t heard of Shai Sol yet, you need to get acquainted. I first learned about Shai via Ron Cantor – read what he had to say about her:

Elana and I were hosting the leaders-in-training group from our congregation, Tiferet Yeshua for the last night of Hanukah. After lighting the candles and eating Sufganiot (1,000-calorie fried donuts), we turned on the TV at 9:00 PM to watch Israel’s newest reality show—HaKochav Haba—The Next Star. And we waited to see Shai.

Her audition began around 9:45 PM. On the show, the hosts first talk to the contestant before he or she sings. Shai got right to the point. “I think I will reveal that I am a Messianic Jew.” The interviewers were confused and asked, “What does that mean?” Shai responds, “Jews who believe in the Tenach (Old Testament) and the New Testament.”

Her mother then goes on to share that the New Covenant was first given to Israel first (Jer. 31:31-33). Shai proclaims, “We believe in Yeshua…”

… Israel Today’s Ryan Jones wrote, “So intriguing was the revelation by 20-year-old contestant Shai Sol that she believes in Yeshua (Jesus) as Messiah that the top-rated Kochav Haba made her pre-audition interview the focus of its promotional commercials earlier in the week.”

… Shai has a very unique style. The judges were enthralled by her—as were the interviewers back stage as they rooted for their new Messianic friend. One judge said, “I am in love!” However one judge didn’t vote while she was singing and she was left a few percentage points short of entering the competition.

The male host was so shocked that he didn’t vote for her that he said if he doesn’t put her through “I am going to stop talking to him.” The judge who “fell in love” said that until today that was the song of Idan Raichel, a famous Israeli artist, but if he heard it for the first time last night, he would have thought it was hers.

In the end, the lone judge who was withholding his vote relented and Shai is now competing in HaKochav Haba.

You have to understand the significance of this. If someone on American Idol in a country with millions of believers testifies to their faith, it is a big deal. I remember Colton Dixon singing a worship song on American Idol and it was amazing. Believers felt empowered to see someone take such a bold stand. But imagine doing that in a country where people are taught that you are an apostate; where your community of faith makes up less than one quarter of one percent of the population. And let’s not forget the hostility, harassment and persecution from the ultra-Orthodox. No, this is a big deal!

A young adult from Haifa wrote on Facebook, “For the first time in history a Jewish person declared their belief in Yeshua on Prime Time Television!” Our youth leader Moti said that someone created a Facebook post this morning saying in Hebrew, “Gam ani Yehudi Meshihi” (I am also a Messianic Jew) and young people, who would never have done it without Shai’s testimony, are now posting it on their Facebook walls. …And to watch it with close to 20 other Messianic Israelis who just happened to be at our home…well, it was like she was representing us. It was special.

No, it is not the revival we are still praying for — but when you think of how hard the enemy has worked to keep Jewish people from Yeshua and how he has sought to turn the Messianic faith into something foreign to Jews, it is encouraging to see a 20-year-old girl from Ashdod, Israel go on TV and tell the country, “I believe in Yeshua!”

Watch Shai Sol for yourself here (heads up – it’s all in Hebrew, but watch it anyway!). She really is someone very special, blessed with talent beyond measure and the courage to stand up and proclaim the truth.

Now we have an opportunity to sow into the work that God is doing with Shai – you can help her record her debut album with a donation of any size to her Headstart project (like Kickstarter, but based in Israel). You can donate even outside of Israel, in whatever currency you have, just use Google Translate to load the page if you need to. There are some great rewards for donors at all levels, and if you are not going to be in Israel to claim some of the higher rewards, you can always donate them to people who are.

Either way, take a moment to share Shai’s incredible story with others!

Artist Profile: Greg Silverman

Greg Silverman Picture

Dr. Greg Silverman is a multi-faceted musician, teacher and speaker, devoting his work to the kingdom of God. The following is an edited excerpt from his biography found on his website, gregsilverman.com:

Greg brings the Message of Yeshua the Messiah to both Jew and Gentile Believers through his anointed Worship Music, Music and Worship Seminars, and powerful Biblical Teachings regarding the Jewish roots of the faith. Greg’s love and enthusiasm for the Messiah Yeshua and for God’s people are evident in every teaching, concert, choral workshop, and speaking presentation he gives.

Having gained an interesting perspective on both Christianity and Judaism from growing up in an interfaith home, Greg remembers accepting Yeshua while visiting his grandmother’s church at eight years of age. Praise the LORD for a praying grandmother! As a teenager and college student he attended a wide variety of churches and gained a proficiency in gospel piano and singing during these years. He graduated from college at the University of Massachusetts with a B.A. in both Vocal Jazz & Gospel Music as well as Psychology. In Spring 2000, Greg was hired as an assistant music director to well-known gospel musician, Ron Metcalf, in New York City. While working with Ron, Greg was encouraged to seek out the Jewish people who knew Jesus. Little did Greg know that there even was a Messianic Jewish movement, let alone that God would one day call he and his wife into full time Messianic Jewish ministry.

In 2001, while studying classical choral conducting for a Master’s degree at Temple University, Greg was invited by a friend to visit Congregation Beth Yeshua in Philadelphia, PA. From the moment he arrived, he felt spiritually as though he had “come home.” Within a year of joining the synagogue, he met his beautiful wife, Rosa, who had been in the congregation for several years prior to Greg’s arrival. Greg and Rosa have joyfully become a quartet together with their two wonderful sons!

Greg ministered full time at Congregation Beth Yeshua from 2004-2010. In Summer of 2010, the Silverman family moved out west to Tucson, Arizona where Greg had been accepted into the prestigious University of Arizona doctoral program in Choral Conducting. Greg completed the doctoral degree in December 2013, and presently is the President of his own ministries. The purpose of Greg Silverman Ministries, Inc. (501c3 charitable organization) is to: 1) Share the Good News of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) with both Jews & Gentiles, 2) Lead in excellent praise and worship both live and through media, 3) Train & equip other musicians and worship artists, and 4) Connect the Messianic Movement and the Church.

Greg has had opportunities to minister across the country and internationally, and he has been a worship leader at the national MJAA Messiah Conferences for about a decade. Broadcast appearances include TBN, Daystar, Jewish Voice, and the Inspiration Network. Greg released his first full-length album of original Messianic Jewish Music entitled Dry Bones in 2004, Revive in 2007, and two new singles None Like You and Floodgates in 2010. The ministry is on the verge of releasing a documentary movie about a piece of Hebrew classical choral music and Greg’s experience as a choral conductor, the Sacred Service Project.

Artist Profile: Jonathan Lane

Jonathan Lane Picture

With a passion to carry Messianic music to the greater Christian community, Jonathan Lane is striving to mix modern sounding music with traditional Jewish and Messianic Jewish ideas. The debut EP release, “Come My Beloved” offers 4 of the 5 tracks based on traditional liturgy from the traditional Jewish prayer book. Most recently, Jonathan has been recording and releasing singles. His most recent offering is a musical rendering of “Psalm 36”.

Currently Jonathan is the praise and worship leader at Sha’arey Tzion (Gates of Zion) Messianic Synagogue in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he has been for the past few months. He’s been leading worship for fifteen years and enjoys every minute of it. His first Messianic Worship Leading position was in Mobile, Alabama, at Congregation Tree of Life and then at Congregation Beit Israel (also in Mobile). Leading others into the presence of Adonai is what it’s all about; lifting up the name of the Lord.

Artist Profile: Deborah Kline and Vince Iantorno

421138

Deborah was born in New York to a Jewish Father and Puerto Rican mother. She moved to Puerto Rico at the age of 9 where she began her singing career on television and was nicknamed La Pequena Gigante (The Little Giant) because of her tiny frame and big voice. She also sang as a soloist in a Catholic choir. After moving back to the States at the age of 15, she strayed away from church altogether. She moved to California with her parents a few years later and began singing in nightclubs, did studio work for producers such as Humberto Gatica and Paul Anka, soloed on various commercials such as 7 Up, C&H sugar and numerous others. She also met and married her husband Vince (Guitar player / songwriter and arranger). In 1999, after losing a child, Deborah’s mother, and other family tragedies, feeling out of control, Deborah and Vince were invited to a church service where during worship she started crying like a baby!!! They both gave their hearts to the L-rd that day, and soon became worship leaders themselves, leading in different churches and venues.

Along the way of growing in the L-rd, while reading scripture, Deborah began wondering what was the connection between being Jewish and a believer in Jesus. She decided to get to know Him as Yeshua, learning scripture through a Jewish perspective (after all, her Great Grandfather and all before him on her father’s side were Cantors)! Their passion for the Lord, and heart for the unsaved Jew and Gentile have brought this couple to ministering G-d’ s grace, love, and mercy through their music. “I broke down my guard during worship… and pray that others may experience the same surrender through the music that Adonai has given us” Deborah said.” Deborah and Vince’s lyrics, powered by Adonai’s word and put together with a fresh musical approach of Latin rhythms, R&B and worship ballads, inspire listeners through the hope of His promise.

Artist Profile: Angela Taylor

Angela Taylor Picture

From Angela:
“I live in Orlando, Florida with my husband Mark, and I work part time as a nurse. In my spare time, I have been writing Messianic music, inspired by my love for Yeshua and for the Jewish people. I started to sing songs to Adonai when I was about 11 years old, after I got my first guitar, and I have been doing so ever since. I enjoy playing in an acoustic style, and I prefer to sing slower, meaningful songs.

I also love to write poetry, and a few of the songs I have written were first written as a poem and then turned into the song. Paper Faces is one of these songs; II decided one day that it might make a good song and so put it to music, about 5 years after the poem was written. I love working with teenagers and inspiring them to seek after God, and I have used this poem/song many times when teaching them the importance of being true to themselves, and loving people around them.

Some other hobbies of mine include bike riding with my husband, growing vegetables in my garden, and decorating around the house. I hope that all of my music can help inspire people to seek after God and to love one another. I plan on writing more messianic music, because it is something I feel called to do.”

New Music Added To Our App: Kerah Oliveira – Breaking The Fourth Wall EP

Kerah Oliviera Debut EP cover

Kerah Oliveira’s debut EP, “Breaking The Fourth Wall,” is now available for free streaming in our app, “Messianic Jewish Music.” You can download our app for free from iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon.

“The fourth wall” is an expression that originated from the world of theater. On Broadway, or even a small Community Theater production, a stage set usually consists of three physical walls, as well as an imaginary (or invisible) “fourth wall” that serves to separate the world of the characters from that of the audience. (Though In video games, breaking the fourth wall occurs when a game becomes aware of its nature as a game, or when a character directly acknowledges the player.) I chose this term as my project title, to express my belief that God desires an intimate relationship with us. The concept of “breaking the fourth wall” to me, is beautifully symbolic of the process of Salvation. God is the ultimate artist, and our very existence is a work of artistic genius.
